We were witness to the first Tropical Storm of the season while in Belize. Everyone said it was a tad early for this kind of weather, but the locals didn’t seem too worried.

“We will get wet!” everyone said.
And, we did. Our first full day in Belize it rained all day. A steady rain filled with dollop sized drops spaced inches apart. I can say I have never experienced a rain like this before. The island had been hotter than normal for days (well into the upper 90s), and it rejoiced in the shower.
Mosquitoes and flies attacked me from every angle when I was sitting (they appreciated the rain, too).

I decided to put on my bathing suit, and Nathan and I took the bikes up the beach for a ride in the rain. The sand would be more manageable for riding, and the entire northern section of Ambergris Caye was quiet of human movement but for us speeding along the beach. (Ps. Our resort - Matachica - was awesome for a number of reasons, but one of them was they offered complimentary bikes, kayaks, snorkel equipment, and boat rides back to town)!

This was one of my favorite memories, and days from Belize.
Oh, and it goes without mentioning that Girk followed us to Belize. On our way back to the resort, Nathan’s chain on his bike came off, got stuck, and he had to walk/skate-bike most of the way. Always an adventure!
Transportation.

On our way to Belize we boarded a train, to a plane, to another plane, to a third plane, to a golf cart, to a boat. It was like our own version of that movie Trains, Planes and Automobiles. We covered a lot of miles to get to this remote location. As soon as we stepped off the last boat I was overwhelmed by the quiet nature of things. Yes I could hear the sea, I could hear the birds calling each other, and I could even hear the wind through the rustle of the palm trees but all around me felt quiet.

It was a beautiful sound.

There is something so peaceful about being so far away, disconnected, unplugged, and alone with the quiet. But there is also something overwhelming, and foreboding about it, too. We’d learn more about that later as we chatted with locals throughout Belize and San Pedro.

During our stay we also rented a car, took a kayak out to the reef, and rode up and down the beach on bikes! Talk about some use of transportation.
Growing up my mama always had a green thumb. I remember watermelons, radishes, tomatoes growing out of our ears. So when we needed to go out of town for our vacation Nathan and I decided mama would be the best person to stay with Tucker, Greta, and the garden while we were gone.
Coming back I think we made the right decision!

In just a week our corn has grown more than a foot! We have baby cucumbers, zucchini, lots of peas, lettuce, green beans (bush), and our pole beans have started climbing!

Nathan and I were so excited. He even made a sign for our Front Yard Farm this past weekend, as I weeded out grass, and morning glories (they grow everywhere here)!
